Troubleshooting your Connection
Background
The wireless technology employed by Wakenet is not much different than
a wireless access point in your home or office, and your personal computer.
The key difference is Wakenet uses slightly stronger radios and the
antennas are more powerful. The antennas at your home are focused at
a Wakenet distribution (access) point.
Power Fluctuations and unprotected Gear
Power fluctuations are common during certain periods of the year.
For members who have decided to not purchase a UPS (available through Wakenet or at an
office/comptuer store), please keep the following in mind:
- Brown outs - see power outage - are
hard on computer equipment. This may mean your gear may not last
long.
- A UPS offers limited protection
from lightening. A direct or extremely close lightening strike
cannot be cheaply protected against.
- Some radios require a power-cycle (unplug and plug back
in) after brown outs.
Is your connection down?
Try power cycling the Wakenet gear
- Disconnect the Wakenet gear (radio and if you have one, the
router too) from the wall outlet or UPS (do not disconnect any other
cables),
- wait two to five seconds and
- reconnect the Wakenet gear.
If the power-cycle doesn't bring you back on line, please see the support page.
